About This Item
Introducing the NooElec SAWbird IR - Premium Dual Ultra-Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) & SAW Filter Module for Iridium and Inmarsat Applications. With a 1620MHz Center Frequency, this module is perfect for capturing L-Band signals from Iridium and Inmarsat satellites. Designed for optimal performance, the SAWbird IR offers high attenuation outside of the 60MHz bandpass region, centered around 1.620GHz. With a minimum gain of 20dB within the bandpass region, you can expect excellent signal amplification.
Despite its powerful capabilities, this module has a nominal current draw of only 30mA. The SAWbird series features two ultra-low-noise LNAs packaged together with a custom-designed, high-performance SAW filter. This filter is centered at the frequency of interest, ensuring precise signal capture and filtering for enhanced performance. To power the SAWbird IR module, you have three different options. If you have a bias-tee capable SDR like the NESDR SMArTee XTR, the recommended power input is between 3V-5V DC through the SMA output port.
Alternatively, you can utilize the external power options through the microUSB port or the power input header. The recommended external power input for these options is 3.3V-5.5V DC. For optimal performance, we recommend using the SAWbird IR module with the NESDR SMArTee XTR v2. This SDR contains a bias-tee capable of powering the module with bias power.
Additionally, the NESDR SMArTee XTR v2 utilizes a tuner IC that enables frequencies well over 2GHz, making it the perfect companion for the SAWbird IR. Another excellent option is the HackRF, which is capable of frequencies up to 6GHz and offers additional features like transmit capability. While the HackRF is sold at a higher price point, it provides versatility and exceptional performance. If you are seeking even higher gain and a slightly lower noise figure, consider the SAWbird+ IR module instead. This alternative is recommended if you are using the NESDR SMArTee XTR, your SDR can provide sufficient current (~180mA), or if you are open to utilizing the external power options.
