Xylitol makes the solution hypertonic, which draws excess moisture out of swollen tissues, reduces inflammation and opens nasal passages, allowing easier breathing. It also creates an environment that makes it difficult for harmful bacteria to proliferate and thrive, reducing the risk of upper respiratory infections. Xlear contains 4 grams of xylitol, 1.5 grams of salt, and 0.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate per packet.
