Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: What are the available weight options for the Thorex nylon hammer?

Answer: The Thorex nylon hammer is available in 6 different weights, ranging from 1/2lb to 5 1/2lb.
  • Question: Are the nylon faces replaceable?

Answer: Yes, the hammer features screw-in nylon faces that can be easily replaced.
  • Question: What is the weight of the smallest model?

Answer: The smallest model weighs 675 grams (1.1/2lbs).
  • Question: Where is this hammer made? England?

Answer: Yes-England. It's referred to as a panel beating hammer for auto body repair. But also a great woodworker and teacher named Paul Sellers recommends it for use as a chisel mallet, I own one myself and I use it all the time as a chisel mallet.
  • Question: Does anyone sell replacement heads in America. Is there compatible aftermarket brand?

Answer: My two heads (on the hammer that is) have lasted for years. I have seen replacements offered but do not have a source I can give you at this time. Happy hunting
  • Question: Are replacement heads available?

Answer: Yes, the company mentions replaceable heads on their site. I'm sure contacting them would get you some. http://www.thorhammer.com/Hammers/Nylon/Hammer_id_31-712R Part numbers: Soft Grey 76-712VF Hard White 76-712NF
  • Question: Are replacement heads available? Was going to buy through their website, but it’s cheaper to buy the whole hammer than shipping them to the US

Answer: Unfortunately the hammer does not come with replacement heads.
  • Question: Does the hard plastic head work for pounding in tent stakes?

Answer: I wouldn’t buy one for the purpose of pounding in tent stakes. It is a really nice hammer for wood workers. It would probably work in a pinch, but depending on the makeup of the stake & ground it might chew up the end of the hammer. I would use just a claw hammer or a small sledge hammer for pounding in tent stakes.
  • Question: Would this be a good choice for bicycle repair and modification?

Answer: If your needs require a well made hammer that is non marring while still packs a wallop then yes this would be an excellent choice. Then again for this hammer's attributes I would recommend it to most anyone.
  • Question: I received this hammer for Christmas and the head is slightly loose on the handle. Is that normal?

Answer: No mine wasn’t loose. We used to tighten the hammer heads by hitting the bottom of the handle on concrete once or twice. Hammer basically is held perpendicular to the ground with the head on top. Lift and hit the bottom of the handle on concrete or other hard surface. Might try that to see if it resolves.
