Do splicing instructions come with the Fid?
Answer: No, but if you message us with the order, I can include a free DVD if ordered from cbknot. Additionally, Samson rope provides free instructions and videos on their website. -

What size fid would work with 1/2" hollow braid polypropylene rope?
Answer: For 1/2" rope, a 1/2" fid should work. If concerned, you might want to go down to a 7/16". -
Question:
What size would be appropriate for 11 mil kernmantle rope?
Answer: You would want to use either a 7/16" or 5/16" size fid. Usually, the fid size is the same as the rope size or one size smaller. -
Question:
For amsteel 1/4 in should I go with 5/16 fid?
Answer: A 5/16" fid is larger than 1/4". Some people use a knitting needle. It is recommended to go down a fid size when splicing any type of rope. -
Question:
I ordered a 1/4" fid for 1/4" rope does not fit. What size fits 1/4" rope?
Answer: Proficient splicers can use a 1/4" fid for 1/4" rope. However, it is recommended to go down 1-2 fid sizes for easier splicing. Smaller size fids may not be available. Most US ropes meet the US Cordage Institute standards. -

What size fid for 3/8 inch dynema winch line?
Answer: Most manufacturers would recommend a 3/8" fid for splicing 3/8" rope. However, some splicers prefer to go down one size and use a 5/16" fid. -
Question:
Are these fids stainless or aluminum?
Answer: These fids are tubular aluminum. -
Question:
Do these work with Double Braid?
Answer: Yes, for double braid ropes, it is recommended to use a tubular aluminum or splicing fid. Class one double braid splice can be done with or without a pusher. It is also recommended to go down one size fid. -
Question:
I need a fid for 5/8 line. What size fid do I order?
Answer: Some people use the exact size fid for the diameter of rope. However, it is recommended to go down a size, so a 9/16" fid should work for 5/8" line.
