Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: Can I use Nishiki rice for making sushi?

Answer: Yes, Nishiki Premium Medium Grain Rice is perfect for making sushi due to its slightly sticky texture.
  • Question: What is the best way to store Nishiki rice?

Answer: Store the rice in a cool, dry place in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Question: How much rice is in one bag?

Answer: Each bag contains 15 pounds of Nishiki Premium Medium Grain Rice.
  • Question: I bought this item in June, it was $19.48 (tax included) back then. Now it's $36 something before tax. What happened to this 100% price spike?

Answer: This particular Vendor is expensive. I was able to find one that sells it for $20.
  • Question: Are there 4 bags?

    Answer: Y
  • Question: How long do you microwave in more powerful ovens? most are stronger than 700w these days. what about 1200w?

Answer: If you are gonna eat quality rice, you have to invest in a quality rice maker. They make high quality rice in a short time and it is perfect every time. I would not consider a microwave. But to each his own.
  • Question: How many bowls for total?

Answer: It says pack of 6 - that is 6 bowls.
  • Question: What are the health benefits?

Answer: Nishiki is a Calrose rice (medium grain) most often used as table rice in Japan and Hawaii. Rice has a fast digestive processing that converts the starch into glucose rapidly and this is why Japanese use this as a staple. The starch content is so high that one can use it to starch clothes. It is always best to rinse rice before using to rid it of talc that is used to keep moisture to a minimum. This rice should not be cooked like 'Uncle Ben' rice because they are very different varieties of rice. Uncle Ben's will fluff whereas Nishiki will tend to be cohesive and makes good sushi rice. Bottom line, Nishiki and other Japanese brands provide high energy.
  • Question: How much is 240 oz?

Answer: 15 lbs dry weight or 1.875 gals.
  • Question: how old is this rice?

Answer: Nishiki rice is as fresh as you would find in any supermarket. I've never had any problems with it making sushi, table rice, or Musubi. A very good quality rice. Make sure you wash all the talc from the rice first.
  • Question: Is this sticky enough for Sushi?

Answer: I don't think so. I have never made sushi but brown rice does not seem sticky enough for that.
  • Question: how many bowls to a pack?

Answer: Six bowls in a pack.
  • Question: Do you have to use the microwave??

Answer: Yes, it's recommended to use microwave to heat up the cooked rice.
