Answer: Supplement. You use it when your phosphate level is above normal range. If you have very high phosphate level, it will take three or four treatments to bring the level to normal, then you can just leave it in, replace it when the level goes up again. You will need a fine mash bag to put those in. -

Answer: Yes it will. Has to be in a flow. I put it in a canister filter instead of charcoal. And it kills diatoms very effectively.
